On 2nd September our members, together with 8 guests tried their hands at Wreath Making. Every single wreath was different, yet we all used foliage and plants from our gardens and the hedgerows. Not only were we busy making wreaths, but we also enjoyed a shared supper of tasty treats and a wonderful fruit punch.
The 5th August has us welcoming Jo Jacobs from Weston Super Mare. Like so many of you, once Jo found NAFAS it filled her life. Her hobby became her vocation. She has pursued all four disciplines and was thrilled to rise to the dizzy heights of a National Speaker. She enjoys sharing her interests with others and loves the research and the chance to visit hither and yon in pursuit of more facts to add to the presentations. Jo enthralled the Assembly audience in Bath with her presentation, ‘Queen of Spades’, and says that her only problem in her maturity is keeping her memory sharp to share her thoughts with you all (NAFAS.org.uk)
For us Jo presented her demonstration ’Just for you’. Jo showed us many new techniques of using plant material in unfamiliar ways, her bleached and her cinnamon pine cones were a prime example, as was her use of glycerine and dried foliage in a fresh floral display. Jo certainly deserves all the accolades that proceeded her visit.
On 1st July we had our annual club visit - this year we went to Ridleys Cheer at Mountain Bower, near Marshfield, followed by a buffet supper at The Bell in Yatton Keynell.
On 3rd June we welcomed Stephanie Cornell, a NAFAS area demonstrator and teacher with her demonstration’View from my Window’. What a funny and entertaining evening we all had. It was delightful listening to Stephanie regale us with stories about her travels and her ‘View from her Window’. Whilst chatting to us, she constructed several displays, all raffled off to lucky members and visitors
Michael Bowyer MBE, did not disappoint. His arrangements were outstanding, members particularly appreciated him teaching two young budding demonstrators during his performance.

On 8th April, we had our very own Chairman and our Tutor providing the evenings entertainment with ‘Our Way with Flowers’. It was a very fun filled entertaining evening, demonstrating how supermarket brought flowers can be used to produce wonderful varieties of floral arrangement. The feedback from our members and visitors was so positive. One visitor enjoyed the evening so much that she became a member.
As usual pictures are in our gallery
On 4th March we welcomed Kathryn Delve, NAFAS Demonstrator and British Master Florist.
it was an amazing demonstration, Kathryn title She Came Late For Tea, turned out to be a mnemonic!
Kathyrn then used her demo to explain the principles of design. I’m sure that all the flower arrangers at the meeting, from those just starting out to those who have been arranging for years, found her explanations interesting and informative. Her displays were amazing and can be viewed on our gallery
On 5th February 2024 we were pleased to welcome LUCY ELLIS with her demonstration
LIMELIGHT
Lucy produced several displays in keeping with her theme, from the stage Limelights, to the film of the same name by Charlie Chaplin. Lucy makes such good use of the flower allowance and her displays contain a rich selection of flowers. Lucy used both bio foam and made fIve no foam displays, three using test tubes, one using a variety of materisl to place flowers in a vase and one with chicken wire as the mechanic. As with most demonstrations, her pictures in our gallery are ’close up’ so as not to disappoint other clubs that she will be performing at in the near future.
